BIRTHDAY PARTY CAKES – VICTORIA SPONGE
In earlier posts I mentioned the idea of using the birthday cake as part of the party bag presents. That lead to a few questions from customers and as a result I have decided to post a few recipies for home made birthday cakes.
I will start with a Victoria Sponge and then follow up with some more, such as a recipe for a Swiss Roll. All the cakes are easy to make and they can then be cut into the required shape and decorated appropriately. Remember they do not have to be perfect. A few bumps etc will make no difference.
VICTORIA SPONGE
Start off by greasing a cake tin, this can be any shape, and then line the base with greaseproof paper. Then pre heat the oven to 180C
INGREDIENTS
6oz Soft Butter / Margarine
3 Large Eggs
6oz Caster Sugar
Pinch of Salt
6oz Self Raising Flour
1 Tablespoon of MIlk or Water
Mix the butter , sugar and salt untill light and fluffy. Add the eggs slowly after beating them in a seperate bowl. Finally add in the flour.
Once all the ingredients have been mixed well pour into the baking tin and cook until ready. aprox 10 mins.
I will deal with cake decorating in a later post but just in passing, remember when ordering your party bags and presents some of the toys can be used as cake decorations as well. Don’t feel limited by what you see on shop bought cakes.
