PARTY BAGS – THE HOMEMADE OPTION
As a parent I don’t know how many parties I have brought my children to but it is a lot and everytime they leave with a standard sweet filled party bag. A year or so ago I decided to do something different and get my children involved in making the party bags, decorations and invitations. This is not a criticism of other parents but I had reached a stage where I wanted my childrens birthday parties to be a little different and something more unique. Yes it is a little more time consuming but children love getting involved in the party preparations and to see the guest’s reaction to the customised party bags made it worthwhile.
The thought of customising the various elements of your child’s birthday party and getting them involved turns most parents off the idea.
Generally just surviving a party is an achievement in itself but putting in some extra thought and preparation will pay huge dividends.
If, like me, you have had enough of standard party bags and you want to show off your artistic flair then my advice is start with a good quality brown or white paper bag. These can then be personalised by putting the names of the individual guests on the bags and decorating them in accordance with the party theme. For example if you are having a Thomas The Tank engine party then train strickers and pictures cut out of a magazine are perfect.
One nice touch I have seen is attaching a name tag to the bag using curling ribbon and a piece of card. The name card can be as big and as detailed as you or the birthday boy / girl like. This type of detail is what will make your party bags stand head and shoulders above the other shop bought options.
The next thing to consider is the party bag filling and by this I do not mean the party favours and toys. If you have choosen a good sized party bag then you will need to fill it out a bit and for this purpose tissue paper is perfect and what is even better it can be purchased in many different colours to suit the party theme.
Now to the party favours themeselves. Normally five or six items are included in a party bag and at least one of the items is a piece of confectionery. You can however go for one main present and if you plan well enough in advance this could be something the children make during the party. It could be something as simple as finger puppets or an item made from modelling. Be sure label the items so children do not go home with the wrong model.
Presentation goes a long way and when wrapping the party bags an extra bit of ribbon and a couple of balloons tied to your homemade party bag
will definitely be different and appreciated by the guests.
As you can see pulling together a customised party bag is not such a daunting task and the results will beat the pre filled party bag option hands down. Good luck with your efforts and keep an eye on our blog for more tips and advice on personalising your childs birthday party.
