birthday remains the same. The lenght of the party and the theme may change as your child gets older but other than that the event is very similar from year to year.
Another element of the party that will change is the party bags. Again the idea of handing out going home presents will not change but the contents of the bags certainly will.
As children get older the volume of presents will diminish but the quality increase. Boys love party bag presents such as packets of soldiers, compasses and soccer balls. If that sounds like a lot of trouble don’t forget there is always the option of pre filled party bags.
Now back to the topic of party games. Below I have some more suggestions for younger children. These games can be played indoors, which is always a good idea considering our weather.
GUESS THE OBJECT
Guess the object is a game for older children, probably from seven upwards. One person leaves the room while the remainder pick an object in the room. The person then returns to the room and tries to guess what the choosen object is by asking the rest of the guests various questions. This game has the potential to get a bit out of control so you may want to try some of your own variations. Again this game is for older kids.
Pass The Parcel
This game is best played after the food has been served. The important thing to remember is to have at least one layer for every child. If the
party is large I would suggest breaking the guests into smaller groups and running one or two pass the parcel games simultaneously. If it is an
all boys / girls party then the presents should be easy to decide on but don’t forget if the party is mixed you will need presents that are suitable
for both boys and girls, such as a bubble set.
GUESS MY NAME.
This game is very simple and all you will need is a blindfold. Place one guest in the middle of a circle. As everyone walks around the person in the centre he / she catches one of them who then says in a disguised voice “Guess Who I am” If the person with the blindfold guesses correctly the players swap places.
BLIND MANS BLUFF
This is another game requiring a blindfold. It is very similar to the game above except in this case the guests sit in a circle around the boy / girl wearing the blindfold. It is better if chairs are used for this game. The person with the blindfold then sits on the knee of one of the guests and has to guess who it is. If he / she gets it right they then swap places.
Whatever party games you decide upon make sure you have them well planned and timed and if you can get some additional adult help all the better.
