PARTY BAGS – THE LOW COST OPTIONS

Everyone is feeling the effects of the recession and looking for ways to

party bags are an essential element of any birthday party but as with most things parents are looking for ways to save money. In this post I look at ways of reducing the cost of party bags.

Party Bags

save money no matter how small the amount but when it comes to hosting your childs birthday party it may seem a little harsh.  In this post I will show how you can save when purchasing party bags without seeming mean and uncaring about the party.

The key to saving money is thinking ahead and preparing early. For example a month before the party, start looking for discount items that would be suitable as party bag fillers. This can be done in the supermarket or online. For example water pistols, crayon sets and stickers are widely available. It is just a matter of spotting the bargains. Don’t leave the party bag fillers to the last moment.

No matter how hard you try to reduce costs there is a certain standard of party bag below which you cannot go. Basically the minimum you can do is give out pre filled party bags you can purchase at a convenience store or supermarket. They tend to be focused mainly on boys and are based on soccer clubs such as Man Utd. They are cheap and cheerful so don’t expect a big reaction.

If the pre filled party bag option is not for you then you can try and assemble something a little different. First off you will need to purchase the party bags. These are availabe in a wide range of themes and are normally priced at about £1.00 for 6 bags, that is about 16p per bag. These bags will be a standard size and made of plastic.

Getting suitable presents to fill the party bags is the next job. Generally you will need about 4-6 items depending on your budget. One of the items can be a packet of crisps or a small chocolate bar. When it comes to sweets for the party bag you could include a piece of the birthday cake instead theyby saving the expense of extra sweets.

You can purchase packets of 12 party favours for an average price of £2.50 which works out at 20p each. Including chocolate / cake with 5 items will work out at a total cost of about £1.30 per party bag. If you have twenty guests this will be £27.

Once you start adding larger items or customising the party bags the price will increase but you should not need to go above £3.50 per bag. There
is of course the pre filled party bag option which you can purchase in our online shop for aprox £2.70. This is a super option and is great for
parents who do not want to compromise on quality whilst sticking to a budget.

Also don’t fall into the trap of thinking that all party bags need to be identical. A little variety goes a long way. That way you can mix and match the  party bag fillers and add an element of surprise.

GAMES AND PRE FILLED PARTY BAGS

No matter what age the bithday boy / girl the general structure of a childs

Pre filled party bags are a super time saver and are usually crammed full of goodies and treats. All you have to do is order.

birthday remains the same. The lenght of the party and the theme may change as your child gets older but other than that the event is very similar from year to year.

Another element of the party that will change is the party bags. Again the idea of handing out going home presents will not change but the contents of the bags certainly will.

As children get older the volume of presents will diminish but the quality increase. Boys love party bag presents such as packets of soldiers, compasses and soccer balls. If that sounds like a lot of trouble don’t forget there is always the option of pre filled party bags.

Now back to the topic of party games. Below I have some more suggestions for younger children. These games can be played indoors, which is always a good idea considering our weather.

GUESS THE OBJECT
Guess the object is a game for older children, probably from seven upwards. One person leaves the room while the remainder pick an object in the room. The person then returns to the room and tries to guess what the choosen object is by asking the rest of the guests various questions. This game has the potential to get a bit out of control so you may want to try some of your own variations. Again this game is for older kids.

Pass The Parcel
This game is best played after the food has been served. The important thing to remember is to have at least one layer for every child. If the
party is large I would suggest breaking the guests into smaller groups and running one or two pass the parcel games simultaneously. If it is an
all boys / girls party then the presents should be easy to decide on but don’t forget if the party is mixed you will need presents that are suitable
for both boys and girls, such as a bubble set.

GUESS MY NAME.
This game is very simple and all you will need is a blindfold. Place one guest in the middle of a circle. As everyone walks around the person in the centre he / she catches one of them who then says in a disguised voice “Guess Who I am” If the person with the blindfold guesses correctly the players swap places.

BLIND MANS BLUFF
This is another game requiring a blindfold. It is very similar to the game above except in this case the guests sit in a circle around the boy / girl wearing the blindfold.  It is better if chairs are used for this game. The person with the blindfold then sits on the knee of one of the guests and has to guess who it is. If he / she gets it right they then swap places.

Whatever party games you decide upon make sure you have them well planned and timed and if you can get some additional adult help all the better.
