Childrens Birthday Parties

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

When you are planning a childs birthday party there are plenty of decisions to be made including whether to host it at home or at an alternative venue. If you are hosting the party outside the home then the earlier you can book it the better. You should also consider the points below

Numbers
How many children can you accommodate and how many parents can you get to help

Invitations
Shop bought or home made. Children tend to like the invitations with TV characters so shop bought can save time as well as been popular with the guests.

Cake
How many slices will you need and what should it look like. Tray baked cakes are easier to cut but don’t look as good. Younger children in particular like something more impressive. The bottom line is cover the cake in chocolate and the kids will love it.

Decorations
How can you turn your home or party venue into something special. My advice is think balloons and think volume. Balloon, including helium balloons are not expensive and are great when used in large bunches.

Party Games
Are you going to hire and entertainer or organise your own games.

Party Bags
Party bags are our specialty so of course we are going to recommend that you put a lot of effort into them. This does not mean that you have to spend a lot of money or indeed a lot of time. Pre filled party bags are a super addition to the range of party supplies that are now readily available online. So make use of the facility, it is well worth it.

PARTY THEMES FOR CHILDREN

At the end of the party when you are handing out the party bags you will certainly feel relieved that the  party is over.  After all that effort it would be a pity if your child or any of the guests were slightly disappointed. It is well worth the effort making sure you have all the small details looked after well in advance of the party.

One of your first priorities should be deciding the party theme. Most other elements of the party will take their lead from the  theme that is choosen , for example the invitations and decorations.  So what are the options when it comes to party themes for children’s birthday parties ? Below I will detail a few that come straight to mind but it is not an exhaustive list by any means.  However if you keep an eye on the blog I will be posting on this topic regularly.

Pirate Party
The pirate party theme is one of the most popular these days. You can ask the guests to arrive in fancy dress. Skull and crossbone balloons and decorations are readily available online and if you want to make some of the decorations yourself then carboard cutlasses and crossbones are realatively easy to make. The obvious party game for this theme is a treasure hunt.

Soccer Party
With the World Cup not so far away the soccer party theme is very topical. It is perfect for boys from 4-5 upwards. If you have plenty of space in the garden or are hosting the party in a leisure centre then a series of mini soccer games is perfect. How about a mini world cup. Medals and prises can be bought easily online.

Riding Party
Very popular with girls. If you are near appropriate facilities it can be a good idea to organise pony rides but make sure there is plenty of help. Pin the tail on the donkey is a perfect game for this party.

The themes above are just a few suggestions but I will be adding more suggestions over the coming weeks.

Of course as party bag specialists we suggest that you plan well in advance and get them organised. They can be as simple or elaborate as you like and there are party bags for all budgets.

BIRTHDAY PARTY CAKES – VICTORIA SPONGE

In earlier posts I mentioned the idea of using the birthday cake as part of the party bag presents. That lead to a few questions from customers and as a result I have decided to post a few recipies for home made birthday cakes.

I will start with a Victoria Sponge and then follow up with some more, such as a recipe for a  Swiss Roll.  All the cakes are easy to make and they can then be cut into the required shape and decorated appropriately. Remember they do not have to be perfect. A few bumps etc will make no difference.

VICTORIA SPONGE

Start off by greasing a cake tin, this can be any shape, and then line the base with greaseproof paper. Then pre heat the oven to 180C

INGREDIENTS

6oz Soft Butter / Margarine
3 Large Eggs
6oz Caster Sugar
Pinch of Salt
6oz Self Raising Flour
1 Tablespoon of MIlk or Water
Mix the butter , sugar and salt untill light and fluffy. Add the eggs slowly after beating them in a seperate bowl. Finally add in the flour.
Once all the ingredients have been mixed well pour into the baking tin and cook until ready. aprox 10 mins.

I will deal with cake decorating in a later post but just in passing, remember when ordering your party bags and presents some of the toys can be used as cake decorations as well. Don’t feel limited by what you see on shop bought cakes.

Childrens Birthday Parties – Themes

Monday, February 15th, 2010

When it comes to choosing a party theme there is a huge range of options. However things will probably be made easy for you by the birthday boy / girl. They will more than likely have a favourite TV character or film which they will want to use as a party theme.

For younger children generic themed parties are very popular. What I mean by that is Teddy Bear, Farm and Car Parties. They are typically not based on  any particular characters but there will be obvious choices such as Winnie The Pooh for a Teddy Bear Party.

If you are hosting a Summer party and the weather forecast isn’t too bad it is well worth considering hosting the party in a well run and maintained park or  similar outdoor venue. Kids just love a Teddy Bear party in a park.

Choosing party bag presents for a generic party can also be a little easier. For example if you are hosting a Farm Yard party then getting a selection of farm animals and an appropriate party bag is perfect.

So when it comes to choosing a party theme listen to your child and keep an eye open when shopping for some bargain party bag presents.

Party Bags and Fillers

At the end of every party it is traditional to say “thank you ” by giving the guests a party bag filled with an assortment of treats. It seems like a simple task not requiring much thought, but as with most things regarding your childs party there are a number of options. Below are some which you may want to consider.

Party Bag Presents : Themes

Most parties are based on a theme such as pirates, cars or disney princess. Party products direct sell a full range of themes which include party bags for the going home presents.

Assembling the party bags can be as simple as selecting a few party bag presents, dropping them into the themed party bag, a task that takes five minutes and very little effort. In fact the hardest part of the process is probably selecting the party bag presents.

This seems to be the standard and most children go home happy. We would however suggest that the party bag includes one “significant ” present. When we say significant it need cost no more than than 75p although there is the option of going as far as £2. It can be better to put a reduced number of gifts into the party bag and include one “signigicant” present rather than fill it will cheaper items that the guest will not be interested in.

Party Bags : The Pre-Prepared Option

In a lot of cases party bags can be the last item on your check list and as a result can be a little neglected. We are not suggesting that the success of a party depends on the guests reaction to the party bag but it is nice to think that your childs friends will leave the party with a smile on their face.Getting a quality party bag assembled with limited time can be frustrating but it needn’t be. The pre-prepared option is a solution designed for busy parents. We stock a great range of quality pre-prepared party bags. They are delivered in a sealed plastic bag containing a flat party box and the contents for the party bag / box. All you have to do is “unfold” the party box and drop the contents

into it.

Because we specialise in childrens party supplies our pre-prepared party bags include a great mix of popular party bag presents at affordable prices. Save time and concentrate on enjoying the party. To view our selection of pre-prepared party bags please > Click Here.

Party Bags : The Activity Option

When hosting a party for your child it is not unusual to have a range of craft activities organised for the children. In fact some parties are solely based on a craft activity such as pottery and painting. There are venues that specialise in hosting craft parties where they will also supply food and refreshments. If you have hosted a party in a venue that you were happy with please let us know and we will include their details on our website.

Getting back to the party bags, it can be a good idea to incorporate the item(s) the guests made during the party into their going home present. If you want to follow this idea then it pays to be very organised during the craft activity. It is vital to ensure that you put the right “creation” into the right party bag. Putting the items into the wrong party bag could cause “difficulties” as the party guests are

leaving.

Party Bags : Do it Yourself

If you want to create a party bag that is truely unique then assembling it from scratch is your only option. Party products direct has a super range of party bag fillers but we cannot claim they are truely unique. If you want to go the “do-it-yourself route then we have outlined some

possibilities below, but remember the most point to remember is “Keep it Simple

The first option for a home made party bag is to get some crinkly wrapping used for flowers, a plastic juice bottle, this can be in the choosen party theme, fill the juice bottle with colouring pencils or similar party bag fillers and tie the wrapping over the top, securing with ribbon. It looks good

and the possibilities / variations are endless.

A second option is to just simply get a bunch of helium quality ballons, again this can match the choosen party theme, fill them with helium and leave at the door at the end of the party so the guests can take one home on the way out. We suggest that all the balloons are the same. This way no one will be disappointed that they did not get their favourite design.

A third option takes a bit of dedication. In the months preceeding your childs party keep an eye out for special offers or “give aways” on the internet or local shops. For example cosmetic samples can be perfect as party bag presents for girls, or the local sports shop could be selling off footballs or rugby balls at the end of the season. Just keep your eye open and the bargains are sure to come your way.

Although it takes more time and effort a “homemade” party bag can be more personal and if you can find something a little unusual to put in it then it is sure to be a hit with the party guests. Also remember the more time and effort you put into the presentation of the party bag present the

better it will look. It would probably be best to give this option a miss if you are not the “arty” type.

Party Invitations

So you have set the date, now all you have to do is write the invitations? WRONG .Before writing the party invitations you must decide on the number of guests and where the party is to be held. These may seem like basic questions but giving each a bit of consideration will help ensure the party is a success for boths parents and children.

Most children want to invite the whole class to their party , particularly during the first few years at school. This can seem like a nice thought but give carefull consideration to the practicalities of having 25 – 30 children running around your house. If you intend to host the party in your own home it may be a good idea to curtail the party guest list to a few “more select” friends. On the other hand if your house has plenty of available space then hosting a party at home can be a very socialable event, particularly if some of the parents stay.

A party can also involve extended family so when preparing the party invitations consider the extent of family involvement. For example will any of the relatives be elderly and if so will there be access problems if the party is been held outside the home.

When sending your party invitations be sure to keep a note of those who were supposed to receive one. In many cases invitations are distributed in the school by the birthday boy / girl and it is not unheard of for a few invitations to go missing.

Party Theme

It could be argued that the choice of party theme should have been dealt with first, but we had to start somewhere!. Most children have a very clear idea of the theme they want for their party and not much guessing will be required. For example a child that loves Power Rangers and has all the various toys will normally ask for a Power Ranger party. The release of a new film can also be a deciding factor when choosing a party theme. For example, the release of Disney cars was followed by the usual merchandise and advertising, and proved to be a very popular party theme.

In most if not all cases the party theme choosen will have a wide range of merchandise available including plates, cups, napkins, balloons and decorations as well as party bag fillers.

Below we have highlighted some of the most popular party themes.

Party Games

No childs party is complete without an abundant stream of party games. Not only are they expected but they are essential. It would be nearly impossible to survive 2 -3 hrs with a group of highly active children intent on enjoying themselves without a well organised plan for the party activities.

Before describing individual party games the following points should be considered.

1. The more help you have the better, especially if the children are younger, getting relatives to help or asking some parents to stay is not an optional extra, it is essential. For older children, 6 upwards, the party activities can usually be managed by a couple of adults.

2. Always have more party games planned and organised than you think will be required. The games will be over quicker than you planned and it is important to keep the momentum going once the activities start.

3. Plan both indoor and outdoor games, the weather is something none of us can rely upon

4. Plan party games that will suit both the out door active child and the quieter party guest. That way everyone will go home happy

5. Have plenty of small prizes. Party bag fillers are great for this, but make sure everyone gets one

6. Party games can be thirsty work, particulary during Summer, so have plenty of drinks available.

7. KEEP IT SIMPLE

Now to some suggestions for actual party games. There are a huge number of options and most parents find themselves going back to the games they enjoyed when they attended parties, even if it seems a long long time ago.

Party Organisation

Organising a childs party can seem like a daunting task. Most people host the party at a weekend and there is littlee enough spare time without throwing a childs party into the mix.

The key to hosting a successful party for your child is to do a little planning. Some things you may want to put on your party check list include

1. Date of Party

2. Venue for Party, at home or elswhere

3. Number of guests to attend

4. Party Theme.

5. Party Cake

6. Transport

As we go through some of the points above you will see there are plenty of options for organising the “perfect party”

Halloween Parties

Halloween is a super party occassion and there is a fantastic selection of tableware and decorations perfect for celebrating the spookiest night of the year. It is a night that is celebrated by adults and children alike.

Starting with the decorations, scene setters are similar to wallpaper except they are easier to hang and can be taken down in a few minutes the next day. There is a choice of various halloween designs but needless to say they all have a spooky theme.

Once the scene setters are hung then you can get to work decorating with balloons and hanging bats etc.

Halloween parties usually have a few planned activities such as apple dunking but one game that you should consider is a Pinata. Again this can be used by children and adults and creates a real buzz amoungst the party guests. Whatever you require for your halloween party, partyproducts is sure to be able to help you celebrate in style.
